RESIDENCY WORKSHOP: MOLD-MAKING WORKSHOP WITH JAMES BARBER

"I think it would be cool for people to make their own molds and cast something that they can take with them.  Alginate molds capture amazing detail.  They are ideal for life-casting, where you are taking an impression directly from the human body... This would be a good class to take with a friend because you will be the model for your own cast.

I will give a basic tutorial of how to use the alginate and plaster bandages to make the mold.  Then the class can break off into twos or threes and make the molds.  I will walk around and facilitate where needed.  Then we will wiggle out of the mold and cast a dense plaster called hydro-stone into them.  These molds are one-time-use, but you will be able to take your finished cast home with you.
