In this first of three workshops, spend the first hour learning the basic background about block printing, what it is used for, and how it has shaped cultural influence. We will briefly overview the several types of block material used, including potatoes, linoleum, and wood. We will look at different styles and repeated popular designs and shapes used in contemporary fashion and textiles. Next, attendees will learn (or refresh!) the basic tool use and techniques needed to create your own block print using potatoes and other root vegetables. Spend the second hour carving, cutting, and creating your design. // $15
Then! Join us in December for the second and third workshops in this series, in which we move on to linoleum and wood block cutting printing.
Vegetables, tools, and paper provided.
